Morphometrical study of the reproductive tract in Boran (Bos indicus) heifers in Ethiopia

Boran breed is the most suitable type of cattle for arid and semi-arid regions Ethiopia due to their adaptive characteristics. Understanding reproductive anatomy important successful management has many implications application assisted technology, interpretation physiological changes at different stages cycle. In this study, data anatomical structures organs 20 heifers were measured characterized reproduction. The mean (±SE) length (L) vagina, cervix, body uterus 13.17±2.98 cm, 7.19±1.28 6.70±1.08cm, respectively. right uterine horn oviduct was 18.47 ±2.54 18.17 ±1.27cm, respectively that left 18.05±2.73 17.45±1.80 ±SE weight (W) ovaries 2.44±1.51 gm gm, Length x Width Thickness ovary 2.10±0.59 1.75±0.35 0.83±0.36 1.97±0.41 1.58±0.29 0.67±0.33 cm. whole organ (without vulva) 301.35±66.34gm. ovarian size influenced by presence corpus luteum(CL) usually larger with its presence.
